True Secularist

Sanket Vyas writes

Parzania is an unflinching account of the communal violence that erupted in Ahmedabad (my birth city) after the Godhra incident in 2002. It tells the true story of a Parsi family that lost their son on that fateful day when their livelihood was destroyed by right wing Hindu mobs in what can only be described as planned genocide. It shows how the government and the police (later verified by multiple eyewitness reports and The International Human Rights Commission) stood by while their citizens were looted, raped and murdered.

Nearly a thousand Gujarati Muslims lost their lives that day and about 100,000 were rendered homeless.

So Sanket, how did some 58 Hindus, including 26 women and 12 children die in Godhra? According to various reports, one third of the people who died in Gujarat were Hindus and why is it hard for you to mention who killed them? Or do you mention only the numerically higher community?

Top 5 Kerala Blogs

I have been reading these five blogs regularly and they have impressed me with
their original thought, writing skills and consistency

  • KeralaTips – This blog is topical, updated often and keeps track of the ridiculous things
    happening in Kerala
  • Dog’s own country – This blog is blunt and is an attempt to keep Kerala from
    going to the Dogs.
  • Mallu Musings – Another blunt look at Kerala and the charades of Communists.
  • Slivers of Volitional Thinking – A fan of Subhash Chandra Bose, Srijith also writes about movies.
  • Varnachitram – The best blog on Malayalam Movies.

If there are other interesting blogs I missed out, please leave a comment.

Oppose Everything

Thiruvananthapuram: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala said its government would oppose the entry of multinational and domestic retail giants into the state.

”The LDF is against the Centre’s policy which allows these giants in the retail sector. The LDF government will oppose its entry as it poses a threat to small retailers,” LDF Convenor Vaikom Viswan told reporters here today after the meeting.

The Center is run with support from the Communists and so blaming the Center for all problems looks so moronic now. Why should people be held hostage to the tantrums of this mafia called Kerala Vyapari Vyavasai Ekopana Samiti? Retail giants can bring down the price of goods which will help the poor, but then the whole idea of Communism is not to help the poor, but to get rich at their expense.

Pipe Dream

One of Rajeev Srinivasan’s guest bloggers, Kapihas been wetting his pants reading that Taiwan would win a war against China. The fact that it was a statement made by the Taiwanese Military itself did not ring a bell to this intellectual. Saddam and various Pakistani Generals too have promised mother of all battles. This guy seems to have forgotten that China has the nuke and seeing how Tiananmen Square problem was solved should give him some hints.

Cricketers and Ads

God’s own country’s contribution to Team India says that Cricketer’s appearence in advertisements would not affect performance.

According to PTI, the Kerala bowler said in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday evening that advertisements do not affect players’ performance. “What’s wrong if we do it? Cricket is a religion in India; it is not like in other countries… And it (endorsements) will not affect the performance,” he was quoted as saying.

“For example, Sachin drinks Boost (in an advertisement). If you can sell a product why not do it? Advertisements will not affect the performance for sure.”

If only Team India had been this passionate about playing cricket Sreesanth would be making this comments from Jamaica or St.Lucia and not from Thiruvananthapuram.

Question to ponder

Mumbai, April 25: The combined wealth of the 20-million strong non-resident Indians community is estimated to be over one trillion dollars–more than the country’s entire economy of about 850 billion dollars.

Overseas Indians are estimated to hold financial wealth, apart from real estate, gold and art, of over 500 billion dollar. The total wealth would be over one trillion dollars, according to the report by High-Powered Expert Committee (HPEC) appointed by the Centre to suggest ways to make Mumbai an international financial centre.

Why is it that 20 million NRIs are able to to generate more wealth than 1 billion residents?

Our airports

Kerala government eagerly awaiting for the central government’s clearence on Kannur airport, but how about fixing the problems in existing airports?

The Kerala government is awaiting Centre’s in-principle clearance for the proposed Rs 1,000-crore Kannur airport in north Kerala, which is expected to boost tourist inflows to the Malabar region.

“We are awaiting the clearance from the government of India,” Tourism secretary and Special officer of the Kannur Airport project, V Venu told reporters.

Kerala already has three airports in Thiruvananthapuram, Nedumabassery and Karipur.
